Matthew
Mantell, Violist and Violinist

Matthew Mantell is currently
principal violist with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and the
Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra. He is assistant principal
violist with the
Chicago Sinfonietta and the Joffrey Ballet and substitutes
with the
Lyric Opera of Chicago. He teaches violin and viola from
his home studio in
Orland Park. Matt is able to perform on either violin or
viola.
If you've never, to your knowledge, heard a solo viola you
can sample the music below.
Many people find viola to be a somewhat lower, more mellow
sound than the violin. The selections below also feature
Emily Mantell, Matt's wife. She is a wonderful cellist, and
you can find more about her under the cello section.
